A few months ago the Royal Mint announced a design competition to design the new one pound coin, naturally I entered. This was a chance to be responsible for an iconic piece of design which will be in the public gaze for years to come. The royal mint provided a template showing the new shape (12 sided) and bi colours (similar to the two pound coin) of the new coin. Applicants were instructed that the design should represent modern Britain and include the denomination “one pound” somewhere in the design.
A pound symbol made using a ‘girder’ to represent Britain’s manufacturing heritage
A union flag aligned with the 12 points of the coin
A design showing the Angel of the North sculpture
The three designs above are my entries to the competition, I’ll let them speak for themselves.
Entries have now closed and are being judged, results are expected in early 2015.
Each year television channel E4 holds a competition for viewers to design ‘estings’ (channel ident videos), short videos that are played between programming and adverts. The aim is to make a video which is funny/amusing/ interesting and conforms with the existing channel branding. This year I decided to enter the completion. The rules were simple create a 10 second long video which made use of the backing music provided by E4 for the purposes of the competition. Here is my finished video:
Tramlines’ is a city music festival held every year in Sheffield. This year they held competition for a logo design, to be featured on all of their official merchandise, I decided to put forward an entry.
