Since using a PC for the first time at school (windows 3.1 no less), the Microsoft Office suite has always just been ‘there’, ready to use and only a short cut away. In all my subsequent new laptops and PC builds l have always installed it without thinking, as a housekeeping matter, right after the OS booted up for the first time. But here in 2015 it’s time for it to go once and for all, and here are my 5 reasons why.
It’s no secret that I enjoy a good run and love a good gadget. What mystifies me a lot of the time though is the modern trend of recording everything you do, and then doing nothing with the data! How many people do you know with a GoPro® who record everything and then leave the footage gathering dust on an SD card in a drawer somewhere?
When I finally found a fitness tracking gadget I liked (in the Sony Smartwatch 3) I decided that I should make the most of the recorded information. The plan was to update this blog and post to twitter automatically after each activity, sounds simple right? Wrong!
I’m proud to have played a small role in helping colleagues to win the top prize at the prestigious, UK Space Propulsion Innovation Awards. My involvement in this was limited to project managing the entries and giving some feedback on presentation style and content, I’m thrilled to have been part of this though.
On Sunday I completed the Sheffield Man of Steel race. While making the decision as whether to run the race or not I kept saying to myself “It’s only 10k, how bad can it be?..”, it turns out it can be pretty damn bad. Rather than a normal marathon or half marathon this race had plenty of incredibly tough obstacles, something I wasn’t massively prepared for. Here’s a video I made of the race:
(Perhaps in a fit of vanity) I decided that a medal hanging solution, for my office, was a good idea.
Below is a video recorded during the first real flight of my quadcopter, using the 808 #16 camera which was mounted on board. The quad makes use of the anti-vibrational mount I detailed previously. Considering the test flight was performed on a really windy day, I’m very pleased with the results.
